Interred in the Root mausoleum at Highland Lawn Cemetery are Chapman J. Root, his wife Ellen A. Root, his only son, William R. Root, and his daughter-in-law Virginia Shaw Root Sutherland. Chapman J. Root was the founder of the Root Glass Company in Terre Haute. His involvement in the glass business led to an interest in the emerging Coca-Cola Company where he began manufacturing ordinary straight-sided bottles. The Coca-Cola Company held a contest among glass manufacturers to design a new bottle for Coca-Cola. Root Glassworks won the contest with the now famous design which has evolved into the one still used today. He was an Indiana delegate to the National Republican Convention in 1940 and an alternate in 1936.
